These paintings and drawings reflect my work over the past year. After moving back to Toronto I was without studio space for a few months so I focused on these red drawings which later went on to inform my latest paintings.

This body of work begins with careful attention to detail, painted in oil, where I’m aiming for precision. But near completion, I brush away that detail, softening edges and dissolving information. This final act of abstraction creates a distance for the viewer to interpret the painting rather than simply observe it.

This push-pull between control and surrender mirrors the subjects themselves: the body, a flower and nature itself are precise structures capable of dissolving into something looser, more temporary, more alive. I want people to sit with that instability, to notice how quickly form gives way to gesture, how a held pose becomes a passing one.
